I put in new formulas and it just gives me a dash

I don't really know how to explain it clearly. This is one of my first times using excel. I put in a formula such as "=QUOTIENT(C13,C19)" and instead of giving me the answer it just gives me "-". I worked out the formula on a calculator and it was .41577679 but that's not what excel gave me. I can't just type in the answer because this is an assignment for school and I HAVE to have the formula. Help?

UPDATE: I clicked on the cell and then I clicked on "normal" and it changed it to 0, but that's still not the answer.

Hi and welcome to the forum

QUOTIENT returns the integer portion of a division. So if your answer to C13/C19 = 0.41....., then it will return 0. If it was 1.01....then it would return 1. What exactly are you trying to do?

Re: I put in new formulas and it just gives me a dash

My professor provided the sheets with information and we had to complete it with formulas and I think the cells were set to "accounting" instead of "general" so that's why the answer was returning a dash and not a number. I understand now kind of.
