    conditional format question

    Hi
I have created a custom stock inventory worksheet where we input actual stock levels manually.

I have 1 column with the stock item by name
I have 1 column with the required constant stock level
I have 1 column with the actual stock level
I have 1 column with the restock quantity needed

there are various worksheets within the workbook with other functions and criteria but all are based around the stock level.

I would like to use conditional formatting to highlight the actual stock level column cells that contain a value less than the column showing the required constant stock level which would then easily visually indicate to whoever takes the inventory that we need to order the item immediately and notify me.

I can conditionally format any cell individually with no problem however... i would like the whole column to do the same thing, but dragging the cell down as with formulas doesn't work.

    Question:
Is it possible to conditionally format a single cell in a column to highlight itself when showing a value less than a cell in another column on the same row and then copy this formatting to the whole column?

    Regards
    Mark

    Re: conditional format question

Yes. You can use conditional formating rule based on formula.
Lets assume that required stock is Column C and Actuals stock is in Column D (starting from row 2 - first for headers).
Select all cells which require formatting (for instance D2:D1000), and the formula (used as ar rule of formatting) would be:

Main Tools->Conditional formatting->Add new rule->Rule based on formula (names van be a bit different - I do not have english version of Excel)

    Re: conditional format question

You don't have to drag or anything. Go to Conditional formatting - Manage rules and in the " applies to " textbox next to your formula, enter the range.
Alternatively first select the range then enter the CF
