    how to format a cell based on the data reference in another worksheet

    Hi, i want to format a cell based on the data reference in another worksheet. sample sheet attached.

    Condition : employee name & date of attendence

    please suggest whether i could make it with conditional formatting.

    In CF for Cell B9 use

    ='Leave data'!B5="Leave"

    Copy -- Paste special -- format across the range of data

    Not entirely sure whether this would work across the 2033 Excel version too though

    You need to use "Named Ramges" as your data are in different sheet. Then use this in CF rules.

    You have to increase-modify your named ranges. Read the article to understand how this works!

    jokes aside, no it wouldn't work in Excel 2007 & below. =)

    so if you were to upgrade to Excel 2010, Ace_XL's version would be a very simple solution for you
