Sum two dollar amounts in one cell in Excel 2010 US version

Hi all,

I searched the internet and cannot find a way to do this. I found solutions on how to add a string of numbers but not dollar amounts.

I would like to type 10.00 + 13.25 into a cell and it autocalculate the sum of the two amounts. I know the plus sign may not work but is there a way for me to type these two numbers in a cell and have it autocalculate?

Hi and welcome to the forum

You need to start all calculations and formulas with =
=10.00 + 13.25

currency (dollar) values are the same as regular values, they are just formatted to show a currency symbol, and are treated exactly the same as "normal" numbers

Well, that was easier than I thought. I know how to quite a few things in Excel but I didn't expect it to be that easy.
