Percentage Formula

I want to do formula for last 10 years of standings based on division placing. If you finish last, 4th out of 4, it would be zero, some years, it will be 6 teams instead of 4. Excel Formula, Excel 2007, please.

Example:
2013 - 10 teams, finished last - 0%
2012 - 9 teams, finished 7th
2011 - 8 teams, finished 4th
2010 - 8 teams, 1st place

What is formula? Is it possible to do average of percentages at the bottom?

Re: Percentage Formula

I can't tell if you are asking an Excel question ("How do I do this in Excel?"), or a math question ("How do I do this?")

A percentage is just a way to express one number divided by another. I can't see anything in your description that can be interpreted as a division. Can you give a couple of examples where you also tell us the resulting percentage that you expect?

I dont see any samples in your reply to him?
D2=(B2-C2)/B2 copied down
B5=SUM(B2:B4) copied to C5

It is not a good idea to take an average of percentages, that is the same as taking an everage of averages...mathematically incorrect. I summed the 2 columns and used the same formula from above
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

The only problem, is if you finished 1st out of 8, formula makes it 88%

Re: Percentage Formula

karlracki, don't quote someone's entire post every time you add a new reply when it's clear what you're responding to (see rule #12).

If you finish 1 out of 8, you are at the 88th percentile, that is, you finished higher than 88% of the other teams. What answer do think would be right for this situation?

That is why I asked for examples, so we don't go back and forth guessing about what you're looking for.
