Pressing F1 for help triggers pop up ads in Excel 2013

I do not have the starter editions of Office 2013 on my computer. I have fully licensed copies of Microsoft Office 2013 software on my laptop but for some reason..when using Excel 2013 and hitting the F1 button triggers this avalanche of web browser pop up ads. I've tried searching the web on this issue and I get no hits on this. So I'm curious about this and wondering if anybody else has experienced this issue and how to stop the web browsers from launching pop ups when using something as basic as hitting the F1 key for help in Excel 2013. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

F1 for Help is working here in Excel 2013 (licensed Office 365 subscription). It sounds to me like something (malware, perhaps) has hijacked your F1 key. Download the free Malwarebytes utility and run it - see what it finds.

    Hi,

I guess you have enabled Excel Help -> Contents from Office.com under Help (F1). Please change this to Content from This Computer. I have attached a snapshot showing how to do this.
