I had recently updated excel 2010 to 2013. I have updated a file 2013, when my colleague opens file in his PC (2007) it shows "Excel found unreadable content....." formats deleted.

Yes it's happening when 2013 file is opened in 2007. 2010 will handle it nicely.
Because the special formattings which is present in 2010 and 2013 cannot be found in 2007.
Mostly the xml is getting affected in 2007. I think microsoft made this to de-promote 2007 and let the users to buy latest versions. Just an assumption

I do have a workaround that I can share with you using Excel 2003 to remove corruption if the workbook will not repair in 2010:
1. Open the file in Excel 2003
2. Go to File: Save
3. Change the Save As type to Web Page (.html), save and close the file
4. Open the .html file in Excel
5. Save the file as a .xls (with a new name so the original isn't lost)
I do not know where the actual "corruption" comes from. Also, you can go through the below-mentioned forum thread:
