    Double column dropdown list

    Hi,

I have a lookup table with a tax code column and a tax description column.

I want to have the user select a tax code, but (also?) show the tax description in the drop down.
I am using the data validation in cells of a specific column in a table.

    Is this possible?

This will probably not be what you want, but will (hopefully) start to define more clearly what you do want.

    Re: Double column dropdown list

    Thanks for your help Glenn,

It is a nice solution, but in the table I need the user to fill in the code from A2:A6 in your example.
I only want the user to choose more easy than from codes, so have the drop down (also) show the description from column B.
So even if I would add an extra column with concatenated values (as in your example) I still cannot fill the cell with the single code.

    Could there be another solution?

    Re: Double column dropdown list

OK. How is this. the dropdown box shows both sets of information and Code selected gives you the code only.

i don't know if you spotted it, but nflsales added a useful feature using OFFSET in the data validation list...

    Re: Double column dropdown list

    Thanks Glenn and nflsales,

This seems to be the solution. I will have to rebuild a few columns, but it seems to work out fine.

The offset I don't think I would need, since I will be using tables retrieving data from SQL.

Bottom line: my issue is solved...

    Thanks again for your help.
