Applying filters to Timeline Chart

Enclosed is a timeline (template, courtesy of Microsoft Office), which worked well for my initial purposes. However, I need to be able to "filter" the source table (Columns B to E) and ideally for the chart to reflect the applied filters (e.g. hide/display milestones accordingly). I went through lengths to understand the construction; alas, no luck as I am a novice chart developer. I wondered if this is possible and without macros. Can anyone help, please? Any advice or instructions would help greatly. Million thanls in advance.

I appreciate your help. Presentationally, I need the chart to be same as my original; your version works well but shows everything in one line whereas I need to make use and include the seconrdary series bar-chart for label "height" (see 'position' column on my original source table). I will continue to play in attempt to resolve it but might be faster if someone with experience can help; therefore, I am most grateful if you can figure out how we can best use my existing table rather than re-design a new chart (note: my original spreadsheet has hidden column 'H' - same as your column 'L').
