Can't move or copy sheets in 2013??

I am having a problem copying sheets from one workbook into another. I am using 2013 with Win 7. I get a bunch of the attached messages. If I choose Yes, it just tells me such and such Name already exists (starts off with 'a' already exists) even though for the workbook or any given sheet that name isn’t used. If I choose No, then it asks me for a new name but then when I save it again tells me the name is being used and it’s a vicious little circle that I have to use ask Manager to kill. There is no cancelling or pressing escape to get out. Now I have also installed ASAP utilities and it may be related to that but they have been less than stellar at any replies. Thoughts?

So there is no hidden sheet that may have the same name?

Just keep clicking Yes in response to the first dialog. It will stop when you run out of names.

No, no hidden sheets with any of the names it comes up with. shg below suggests I just keep clicking yes until it runs out of names - and that actually works, but why the stupid problem to begin with? Those names are not the real problem.

The name is not the name of a sheet, it's a Defined Name (Formulas tab, Name Manager) which exists in both workbooks.

Re: Can't move or copy sheets in 2013??

romperstomper - Thank you for the clarification. So then, what does that actually mean because obviously Excel does not like this when it is done. What problems might I incur and what do I do to prevent this? I think part of what may be causing this is that I have built a fairly large report consisting of many sheets and I like to keep the header section the same so I'll copy the sheet and then modify the body of the report to suit my needs. I'm looking right now at the sheet that instigated this thread and I tried making a copy and moving it within this same workbook and it's telling me that, for example, the name "DRYav" already exists..... but there's nothing about this particular sheet that I can see that has anything to do with that particular reference, no formulas or fields equaling data from other sheets, nor are there anything but some Data Validation drop down menus in play here (and the lists for those drop downs are within the sheet I'm moving and do not have these names).

Did you look in Name manager? (if you're not sure what Names are, read this article)
All names that refer to the sheet you are copying, or that are used on it, will be duplicated in the target workbook - if they already exist there, you see the message you describe.

I seem to have deleted my last question .......

Thx romperstomper. But I'm having a problem here with this article. On the second page (and I won't insert the link here but it's the one in your post) where it tries to explain range names it gives me a little exercise. I duplicated what they have in fig 2 and did the "Select the both the tables content and its headers. Then choose Insert, Name, Create from the menu." I'll be darned if I can find this dialogue box they show. Now again, I'm using 2013 so perhaps it's been relocated to a more intuitive spot ....... but if I can't even find this, then the rest of the article is rather nonsensical to me. Please advise. This is very interesting stuff otherwise.

I hadn't spotted that hadn't been updated for 2007+ versions. I'll let JKP know - thanks.

Re: Can't move or copy sheets in 2013??

So if I understand this correctly then, because I have taken a sheet out of an existing workbook to use as a template for a new sheet to be added back in later, all of the names listed in Names Manager get extracted with the sheet, and therefore when I go to try and re-insert it into the original workbook, it tells me I have already got all these names being used, correct? And therefore I should just be able to delete pretty much all of them except the odd one that might be part of a macro or is otherwise being used.
