Getting excel to automatically display a fraction non reduced based on a divisor

    Blank.xlsHere is my problem

I need to use two fractions in excel # ??/56 and # ??/60 as a end result of a calculation.

I am converting from Pounds to bushels, however, bushels come in two main denominators depending on the commodity, its either /56 or /60.

I have an If function set up to use the correct divisor based on the commodity entered, however, excel likes to reduce, and i do not need it to reduce, i need the end result displayed in either the /56 or /60 fraction depending on the commodity, as follows in the attached spreadsheet, the bushels conversion is dependent on the commodity entered, the bushels column displays the converted number, but not in the correct format instead it is reduced.

I really do not want to have to manually format the cell each time using the code #??/?? to display the correct fraction, can excel do that for me automatically?

that is can excel display the correct fraction based on the divisor used?

    hi

    why even go that route?

if you want excel to display 24/56 then enter 24 into the cell. use cell format to make it display 24/56
your subsequent formulas can do the division for you when needed

if you want excel to display 24/60 then enter -24 into the cell. use cell format to make it display 24/60
your subsequent formulas can do the division for you when needed

    The custom format

    Hi Originalb,
    Welcome to the Forum.

Your question is not clear to me.
But see if this is what you are trying to achieve.

And moreover can you replace the formula in E8 to this....

Re: Getting excel to automatically display a fraction non reduced based on a divisor

I know its a little confusing, i originally thought of vlookup, but switched to an if function for ease of use. Let me see if i can clarify, both answers are a step in the right direction

Going from Pounds to Bushels, i divide the pounds/bushels the number i need has a remainder as follows: if i take 1000 pounds and divide by 60 bushels my answer should be 16 with 40/60 remainder.

If i take 1000 pounds and divide by 56 bushels my answer should be 17 with 48/56 remainder.

I at trying to get excel to automatically use the correct denominator with the correct remainder, However excel likes to reduce, in addition i cannot get cell
F8 to automatically use the correct remainder without me going into custom from # ??/??.

The spreadsheet is actually not for me, its for a good friend, who is not familiar with excel, therefore i am trying to make it as simple as possible.
