Group rows based on part of cell value

Hello,
I have a table that contains part numbers in one column and data about the part number in the other.

The part numbers looks like these:

3bk12345-000
3bk12345-001
3bk54321-000
3bk54321-001

The lust 3 digits (after the dash) are version of the part number.

I would like to group the part numbers rows based on the part number and ignoring three digits after the dash.

I'm missing the point here. Could you post an example which shows where and how the basic data sorting feature doesn't work for you?

The problem is that in fact i have 4 different values (different part numbers).
But actually it's to part numbers with difference of version (the last 3 digits).
I need to group similar part numbers ignoring the version (the last 3 digits).

I still don't understand. Show an example, please, where and how the built-in Sort function fails your needs.
