how do i stop tables from auto filling?

Every time I add a new row to a table, it automatically uses a formula to calculate what to put in there. There must be a way of turning this off, but buggered if i can figure it out. I've tried calculation options and auto correct options but nothing is working.

I think i have an older version of excel.

That is the nature and design of tables. If you don't want that to happen, then convert (change) your table to a range.
