    Creating a complicated sports schedule

    Hello folks,

This is my first post on these forums so I hope I'm in the right place! I've done a search and I seem to can't find anything.

I am attempting to create a sports schedule (baseball) that is quite complicated.

    There are 20 teams.

Four divisions of five teams each.

A team will play its divisional members three times for a total of 12 games.
A team will play each opponents in two other divisions for a total of 10 games.
They will NOT play any games against the fourth division.

Each week there will be "10 games total."

All together, there will be 220 games between all teams.

Is there a way to create a schedule like this?

    Thanks for your help!!

    Hi RoughRiders9,
Your problems sound like a high school math problem really
Can you draw some charts or examples to visualize your rule.
My first thought is to coding the type of match, then each team will needs certain number of matches to fulfill

    Waiting for your example

Re: Creating a complicated sports schedule

Sure thing. Here is a list of our fantasy baseball teams and how they would be facing each other.

    FRONTIER LEAGUE

    Pacific Division
    Wheat Kings
    Skippers
    Oaks
    T-birds
    Doles

    Gulf Division
    Travelers
    Barons
    Hunters
    Suns
    Bats

    PIONEER LEAGUE

    Lakes Division
    Bisons
    Zephyrs
    Bombers
    Grays
    Americans

    Atlantic Division
    Green Sox
    Yankees
    Mobsters
    Isotopes
    Amazin's

I will be using the Oaks an example of what its schedule would look like:
    • The Oaks will play its divisional (Pacific) members three times for a total of 12 games.
    • The Oaks will play once against each of the five teams from another division within its own league (Gulf) for a total of five games.
    • The Oaks will play once against each of the five teams from a division in the other league (Lakes) for a total of five games. This is akin to "interleague" play in MLB.
    • The Oaks do not face the Atlantic Division at all.

In the interleague play, the Pacific will face the Lakes while the Gulf faces the Atlantic.

    I hope this helps!!

    Thanks for your assistance!
