    Copied Worksheet is Gray

    Hello,

I'm having a problem with trying to copy a worksheet in my workbook. I have Excel 2013. I am trying to work on my monthly budget and use the Blank Budget Sheet Worksheet as a base. What I am trying to do is just copy the Blank Budget Sheet Worksheet to create a new Budget Worksheet for 2015. When I copy the worksheet I get a gray worksheet. The cells aren't showing and it seems to have only copied column A although I can't see the cells. I only know this because when I press the enter key it shows the values in the A column cells. I can't click on any part of the worksheet. Mouse doesn't work on it. When I try to press the right key to go to another column nothing happens. I don't have the workbook or worksheets protected. So not sure what is going on. I actually just tried to copy other worksheets just to make sure that it was not just that worksheet and I get the same results.
I sure could use some help and would really appreciate it.

    Hi CJ,

Can you post that blank budget sheet here?

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

    Re: Copied Worksheet is Gray

Thank you for your reply. I have attached a sample worksheet just to show the problem. The Worksheet labeled "Sheet" is the original Sheet. I was trying to copy that worksheet by right clicking on name tab and choosing copy. When I did this I got results which is Worksheet labeled "Sheet (2). Sheet (2) is all grayed out. I also tried clicking on the select all worksheet cell which is above and to the left of Cell A1 and got same results. I have tried that with all the worksheets in the workbook. I am thinking that maybe I have a corrupted workbook. I was able to do a workaround to the problem by right clicking on a worksheet tab in the workbook and inserting a new worksheet in the workbook and copying parts of the original worksheet to the new worksheet and it worked good, but then I had to redo the column width and row height and some other formatting. So I don't know if I will have to create a new workbook and just do a lot of cut and pasting of worksheets, since I have a lot worksheets in the workbook. It would take me some time to do that. I am hoping that I won't have to do that.

Also forgot to mention that on the Worksheet Sheet (2) I can't use the mouse to click any of the cells. I can only use the down arrow and if you look at the formula bar you can see that there is data there you just can't see the cells in the Worksheet Sheet (2).

    Hi CJ,

Run this on Sheet (2), it worked for me:

    quick fix
select all of sheet by clicking in the box above row 1
home tab in the cells group
    choose
    format
    column width
    enter 8.43
    click ok

    Re: Copied Worksheet is Gray

If you copied the worksheet called Sheet, the column width is blank. Select that worksheet and change the column widths to 8.43 so that in future, you won't encounter the same problem. Copying that worksheet the way it is results in a worksheet with 0 column width as stated by martinwilson.

    Re: Copied Worksheet is Gray

Thank you everybody for your quick help. It worked. I also noticed that when I went into the format part of home menu that there was a "Visibility" portion with hide/unhide for columns and rows. I clicked on unhide columns and the worksheet was all visible. So I guess the columns somehow got hidden. Not sure if this was due to having some of the columns cells merged in the original workshee and it messes up copying a worksheet with merged cells into a new worksheet or what. Either way thank you all for your help. It is very much appreciated.
