    Sick/PTO Accrual Spreadsheet Help

    I have a very involved spreadsheet to track part time employee sick pay hours. Employees accrue 1 hour of sick time for every 30 hours worked, and the amount of hours they work vary by week. The amount of hours allowed to accrue in a calendar year is 40. I also have to track the amount of hours they have used.

    I need to figure out how to cap the amount of hours in "Available Hours" at 40. Right now it just shows the total they've accrued based on hours worked. I had a simple 40-M2 (column showing how many hours have been used) for anyone who reached over 40 hours, however I need something more accruate. Once they use hours and are below 40 again, they should be allowed to continue to accrue until they reach 40 hours again. Is there a formula that can calculate all of this for me?

    I am looking for the same thing to deal with a new Earned Sick Time law that was passed in Massachusetts. It accumulates exactly the way you describe. Did you ever get an answer for this, or were you able to develop a spreadsheet yourself?

    @alauratag

    The basic formula to replace what you already have is something like this:

    =min(40,your formula for sum of hours) to give a cap of 40.

    In order to give a better answer please upload your workbook or a sample with sensitive data removed:
    Directions:

    Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

    Click on GO ADVANCED and use the paperclip icon to open the upload window.
