    Tect to Columns

    Hi,
I have multiple text in column A and want to split it up in columns to the right, the first bit of data is first name then last name, i want the full name to remain in one column and the rest of the data to be split up in columns to the right, for example,

John Smith (def) $400,000 is in column A1

    result to be:-
    col A - John Smith col B- (def) col C- $400,000

I can do this if it is just one line (i can delete the dividing arrow between John and Smith) using the text to columns button, but when i highlight multiple cells in column A, then use the text to column button that option is not there.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    thanks in advance

    Re: Tect to Columns

That's not a lot to go on - can you post a few more examples (attach a sample workbook). If your second field always starts with an open bracket and the third field with a $ symbol, then it will be quite easy to split the data using formulae.

    Re: Tect to Columns

To use Text to Columns, select the entire column, then click the button. For best results, look and your data to see if there is any symbol that repeats in every cell, that could be used as a delimiter, then select the option "Delimited" and use that symbol as a split point.
