Follow up: Activex stops working after software upgrade

As per the below link, I experienced the same problem and got it fixed.

    http://www.excelforum.com/excel-gene...atting-pc.html

But this I think is a whole new situation. You may see the link, but to summarize it: I encountered problem with activex (stops working/i have macro buttons that cant be click and cant create an object) when i reformat my pc. I was told to remove "exd" files on temp folder and it was fixed. Now we upgraded to excel 2013 and experienced the same problem. I did everything on that post many times but still i didnt get anywhere including this link

    http://datapigtechnologies.com/blog/...ivex-controls/

BTW is it normal that after deleting the "exd" files it comes back again upon reopening the file?

It sounds like you have the Office Update that was issued in December 2014 that broke the ActiveX controls. Here is an article to fix the problem:

If this doesn't work, uninstall the update through the Control Panel and re-download the Microsoft Updates.

I already tried the solutions on that link. And if by uninstall update you mean uninstalling my office 2013, because thats the recent and only update displaying on the "Installed Updates".

I only got this issue again when i upgraded, but i rather stick to this 2013 for now.

Don't uninstall Office 2013, uninstall the upgrade dated around Dec 14, 2014 then run Windows Upgrade to install the correct version of the upgrade....Microsoft screwed up on this and didn't get it off their site until many people (myself included) had installed it.

You should find the update by going to the Control Panel, Programs and Features, then look in the left panel near the top and you should see "View installed updates". Click on that and a listing of updates from Microsoft will appear. Select the offending update and uninstall it.

Re: Follow up: Activex stops working after software upgrade

I reviewed the list of updates and i 50 or so updates dated Dec 28 to 31 2014 (you have to tell which one i have to remove). The thing is why does my macros/activex before works on january 2015 even if i have that update? Im just saying all that caused this is when i installed the MS Office 2013, and there might be an and update dated Feb 24( the date i installed the MS office 2013) which might be causing the same problem of the mentioned Dec 2014 update. Just to add back on the first post, I didnt explored removing the updates because deleting the EXD files worked the first time.

Just to describe what i see on my installed updates: They are categorized into three

    1. Microsoft Windows probably around 200 updates dated Dec 28 to Jan 1 (the time i reformatted my PC so a bunch of updates came in). Then i cancel autoupdate to avoid issues.
    2. Office Professional - around 40 dated feb 24.
    3. adobe acrobat - only one dec 27 2014

I wouldn't have auto update for Windows disabled. That is an invitation to trouble. I've been there, done that, paid dearly for it.

If you reformatted and re-installed Windows after Dec 14, 2014 the ActiveX problem was fixed almost immediately after Dec 14 so that isn't your problem. If you have accepted invitations to update ActiveX controls from websites that you have visited, that can be a real problem.

There have been 2 updates to Adobe Flash Player on Feb 5, 2015 and one update to Adobe Shockwave Player on Feb 23, 2015.

At this point, I would be tempted to uninstall Office using Revo Uninstaller which does a much better clean up than the uninstaller for Office and many other programs. There is a free version here: http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_..._download.html

    Then reboot and re-install Office.

You were right. I shouldn't have diasbled windows update. That was the problem all along. I was afraid that having another update would give me the same problem. But before everything is fixed, i still added the step of deleting the exd files. Thank you, i didnt require to uninstall office.

I'm glad that you got it fixed. I got burned by turning off Windows Updates when I had a very slow internet connection....never again. It is good that you turned the updates back on. That should help.
