Having problems with [m] formatted number

In my spreadsheet I have a time calculator which will subtract the starting time from the stopping time to give the total minutes, which is formatted as [m]. The problem is that I can't figure out any averages over time. Ex, if 60 parts were produced over 60 minutes, the average is 1 part per minute. However, with [m] formatting, 60 is actually .04 once you apply general formatting, so the formula would actually be 60/.04.

Is there any workaround for this issue? The only thing I thought of is to still have the time formula, but put the cell off to the side so the user can see how many minutes have passed between starting and stopping but they would still have to type the number into a cell that has general formatting applied. Any other options?

Multiply the .04 by 1440 to produce 60 minutes.

Ensure you describe your problem clearly, I have little time available to solve these problems and do not appreciate numerous changes to them.

I would encourage you to become familiar with how Excel stores and uses dates and times. I find this a useful discussion on the matter: http://www.cpearson.com/Excel/datetime.htm As Special-K suggests, it should be as easy as converting the "fraction of a day" number that Excel uses into actual minutes.
