    indirect formula syntax

Hello. Why do I need the quotes below?

    =SUM(INDIRECT("A"&B1&":A"&C1))

For most of your posts, the answer can be easily found by just simply Google it.

    Re: indirect formula syntax

I am trying to expand this to other workbooks too so I am browsing for similar content...

Essentially the "" go around anything you are using as fixed. So in you formual you will add anything in Column A because A is fixed and the B1 and C1 will define the first and last row of your sum...

    Hope that helps

If the value A was in A1 then instead of "" I believe you would have Sum(Indirect(A1&B1:A1&C1)) But I am still learning.

    Best of luck

This thread is 2 months old grasstoe, I believe he probably has found his answer by now (or at least I hope so), you probably should take care of answering threads you found through searching!
