How to change the value of a column by a percentage

    Hello,

Thanks in advance for any explanation i receive on this. I am new to the site so go easy on me for a rookie question lol.

I used to do sub contracting and i would receive rate sheets, it would show line items and then the rate i would receive out to the side (ie: install basic $25.00) when i did this everyday i use to build it on a spreadsheet with one column that had 100% and then when i got ready to sub the work out i would just go change the 100% to say 75% and all the pricing would reflect the change. i for the life of me can't remember what formula i use to use to make the happen. I am not the best at explaining but below is an example.

    Unit Price 100%

    $10.00
    $100.00
    $1,000.00

Then if i changed the 100% to 75% all the numbers in the row "unit price" changed to reflect that change so i could show my contractors their payout.

    Unit Price 75%

    $7.50
    $75.00
    $750.00

Can someone please point me in the right direction, i just want to be able to change the cell that has 100% in it to another number and it makes the reflections in my cells under unit price ect.

    Thanks
    Jason

If base price is in A2, and the reference net price needs to appear in C2, let's put the percent markup/down in M1 resulting in this formula in C2:

    =A2*$M$1
    ...copied down.

Re: How to change the value of a column by a percentage

my unit price /base price is in say row A2, i want to type 100% in say C1. when i change the 100% in c1 to 75% i want the value in A2 to simply change as well to reflect 75% of what ever number was there (IE: 100.00 changes 75.00(in A2) when i change the cell with 100% to 75%( in C1)

In other words i don't want the new total to show in a new column but simply replace the dollar amount in A2 to reflect the change.

Re: How to change the value of a column by a percentage

Then when you enter the PRICE into A2 the first time, you enter it as a formula:

    =11.50 * $M$1

    ======
I must reiterate, I've designed 100s of pricing sheets and forms, most of which include this sort of MarkUp /Discount concept. I have never created one where the base initial pricing wasn't somewhere simple to review, even if it happens to be a hidden column. The base price of $11.50 on an item should be easy to see and edit for you base prices without having to worry about the markup at that point.

So I would still have a reference column of easy to see real prices, then the main PRICING column that does show on the form is the one using suggested formula from before.

Re: How to change the value of a column by a percentage

Awesome, thanks the last one was what i was looking for. Thanks for the advice as well. I use this to hand out so i don't want them seeing my prices as all they see is a price and don't know the percentage as it pertains to. I do the same except i just hide the percentage column, of course i know what i am getting paid but if i ever need to reference it i just go back and change it to 100% again.

    Thanks for your help!
