Linking Files Issue

I run into a common issue: I need to access large files. These files cannot be opened two at one time without crashing Excel. I need to use the address function to access specific sheets within that file. So, when I jump from one file to the other, the formula REFs out. Is there any way to call in the data without having the file open? Yes, I could hard code everything but I need the file to be more dynamic.

I am not 100% sure how linked files work in Excel. Does anyone know a good website that I can review? Thanks

It sounds like you are using INDIRECT for the links? this does not work on closed files

See if the MoreFunc add-in will help you?

What is making the files so big, in the 1st place? Perhaps something can be done to make them smaller?

Unfortunately, the size/type of the file is out of my hands. These files are owned by our accounting department and sourced from our ERP. Furthermore, these files cannot be opened in Excel 2013 and the sole reason I have Excel 2010. An issue even Microsoft "consultants" cannot explain.
