connecting cells (item no./item description)

i am making a inventory supply list. i want to connect a cell in the first column to a cell in the second column so when i want to sort using the item number or the item description the cells move with the corresponding cells. how would i do this? sorry i am new to excel and to this forum. so hello everyone and thank you in advance for your help to this simple issue! have a great day!

When you select your range to be sorted, just include both columns. For example, if your item numbers are in the range B2:B500 and the corresponding item descriptions are in the range C2:C500, select range B2:C500. Select Sort in the Sort & Filter section under the Data tab. In the Sort dialog box choose Sort on Column B if you want to sort by number or Sort on Column C if you want to sort by description. The data in each row will still be in a row together when the sort is complete.
