    DNA sequences

Hi, I'm currently working on small RNAs and have over 100 thousand reads to sort through. I'm looking for a specific sequence about 15 nucleotides long which can be anywhere between a sequence that is 21-24 nucleotides. Whenever I search in the find bar, using the 15 nucleotide long sequence, I get no matches when I know that their is matches. How can I search for any cell that contains this sequence anywhere in it.

Example: in the search bar I put, TGCCAAAGGAGAGTT. And get no matches, but in the spreadsheet I can see this sequence TGCCAAAGGAGAGTTGCCCTG.
    Thanks for the help.

    Re: DNA sequences

    Hi, welcome to the forum

Assuming your data is in column A, try this...
    = match("*GCCAAAGGAGAGTT*",A:A,0)
This will return the row number in A that contains the 1st match found

    Re: DNA sequences

I just noticed that I left off the 1st letter (T) in the sequence, hopefully you picked that up.

If you want to return the actual contents of the match, use this...
    =INDEX(A:A,match("*TGCCAAAGGAGAGTT*",A:A,0))

Anyway, happy to help If this answered your question, please take a moment to mark the thread as "solved" - it helps keep things neat and tidy lol, and consider adding the reputation to those that helped (see points 2 & 3 below my 1st post to you)
