Question Default font on worksheets - strange problem

    Hi,

I'm using excel 2010. I've got a question about strange font behavior - the occasional appearance of a font named "Tms Rmn" (not Times Roman)

I'm working on a worksheet where the default font seems to be Tms Rmn. First of all, this isn't even a font on my computer, and never has been. The part of the worksheet that I'm using is all formatted with Arial, but when I inserted a row above the first row (and chose the option 'format same as above'), the font Tms Rmn was used.

This worksheet originated 20 years ago, but I've updated it along the way, including the fonts. I noticed though, that all of the areas of the worksheet outside of the area I've formatted, are Tms Rmn.

I guess my question is: Is there a way to search and replace font formatting only? I know you can in MS Word, but it doesn't seem to work in Excel.

another question: Is there a way to determine the existing default font for a worksheet?

BTW, I know how to set default fonts - I've got my default set to Arial 11.

    Thanks.

Try changing the "Normal" cell style.
    • Home.Cell_Styles...Right-Click:Normal...Modify

If "Font" is set to Tms Rmn
    • Click: Format...and change the font on the Font tab.
    • Save the settings

    Does that help?

That did it! (sort of) My Normal style was set to Arial 9, but the style it was referencing, "Normal_pnl-A", was Tms Rmn. Thanks for your help. I don't use defined styles with Excel, so I wouldn't have thought of that. Thanks a bunch!

Go to Find and Select, Replace. Click on OPTIONS then click on Format, Font. If the font isn't in the list click on the button CHOOSE FORMAT FROM CELL then click on a cell with the font. Click on the Format on the same row as Replace With. (do not enter anything in the find or replace with fields) Choose the font that you want. Click on replace All.

Follow Ron Coderre's instructions to change the normal font that Excel uses when you open a new workbook.

    Good luck

Thanks - I had already tried that a couple of times. (I do it all the time in Word) I couldn't get it to work with empty Find and Replace fields. However, Ron's solution fixed it...the font was set in a style.

    Thanks.

I miss-spoke, not only does Ron's solution change the default, it also changes the font for the active workbook all at once.
