Formula for colouring cells if cells in other column have specific tect

    COLUMN A COLUMN B
    1 SETTLED
    2 SETTLED
    3 NOT SETTLED
    4 NOT SETTLED
    5 SETTLED
    6 SETTLED

I want to color only those cells of COLUMN A where SETTLED is mentioned for COLUMN B. Is there a formula or option in conditional formatting to color cells if adjacent cells in other columns have specific text.

    Hi,

    See the attached the file.

On the Conditional Formatting Window, enter the following formula:

    =$B1="SETTLED"

Yes I have tried this but It doe not apply to the whole column. Did you add the conditional formatting formula to each cell individually (in your excel attached)..

    Hi,

Select the entire range you want to format (for example B2:B100), then do the conditional formatting. Make sure the formula is =$B2="SETTLED" and not =$B$2="SETTLED". Excel will then apply the format to the entire range you selected.
Alternatively, apply the conditional formatting to the first cell (for example B2), again making sure it includes $B2 not $B$2, then right-click and drag the little box at the bottom-right of the selected cell (B2), drag it down to the bottom of your range (for example B100), release the right mouse button and select 'Fill Formatting only' from the menu which pops up.

    Hope that makes sense.

No, I did not do it for each cell, all you need to do is remove the $ sign in the cell reference on the conditional formatting window (change the reference from absolute to relative) $B$1
