Cursor view is offset - deleting characters a couple spaces to the left of cursor

Hi - thanks in advance for any guidance on the following. Wasn't really sure what to title the problem.

Background:
-I copy regulatory language from a website and paste values into the Source tab
-Run a macro to parse the reg into logical clusters, output into Destination tab

Problem:
In this case, I'm trying to superscript the 5 and 6 footnotes in the attached example. When I go to edit the cell, I place the cursor where I want it within the cell and then highlight the 5 and go change the font to superscript. My issue is that while I think I'm selecting the 5, I'm really editing the character a few spaces to the left. It's as if the cursor is not really aligning with the text?

Any thoughts on how to fix this? I'm assuming it's either caused by hitting a char display limit or the paste values is not really pasting Excel plain text, but rather I'm ending up with content with an incorrect encoding for Excel?

got the answer offline - Excel was retaining some formatting attributes with paste values (indentation, line breaks, etc.). Can clear it up by adding some char(10)s as we loop in multiple rows from Source into one cell in the Destination.
