Format Table in Branching Structure

Hello, I am trying to make a reference guide for vehicles that sorts by year make and model. I currently have a source table with each model, make, year, and part number. I am trying to make another table that takes the source table and formats it in such a way that it it (for example) groups all of the Toyotas, then groups the models, then groups each year of that model that uses the same part number. I have attached a sample document (I think...first time posting, and therefore first time attaching as well). In the example sheet, the upper part of the table shows what my source table would look like. And the lower part of the table shows what I would want the table to look like afterwards. I realize that I can just do it manually and merge cells and whatnot, but considering the fact that I would have to do so for every year, make, and model of car ever made (for work), I would very much like to avoid having to do it the "hard way".

I am pretty much a novice in all things excel. I thought a pivot table might help me, but I couldn't figure out a way to get it to format the way I wanted. I was thinking of using functions to help me out, however I couldn't even begin to wrap my mind around how to do so. Even if no one has a concrete answer, if anyone could point me in a possible right direction, I can try to see what I can figure out.

I super appreciate any help that anyone has and appreciate the fact that you have read this post with the intention of maybe helping.

Thanks,
Sean

Hi, welcome to the forum

Please upload a sample of your workbook, not a picture of your data. Pictures are pretty much impossible to edit, and no-one wants to re-type your data for you
Also, not all members can upload picture files (Company firewalls and stuff) - and, depending on what browser is being used, some pics dont even show up on the forum

Your workbook should show a small desensitized example of the data you are working with and a manual mockup of the expected results.
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you

Ah, thank you so much for both the reply and the advice. Both are quite appreciated. I went ahead and fixed my post to reflect your suggestion, and attached document with a sample of the data as well as an example of what it would hopefully look like afterwards.

Thank you very much,
Sean

Maybe its just late here, but what is that "sort" based on?

Re: Format Table in Branching Structure

I'm not quite sure how to sort it specifically. What I am trying to do is the following. Group the makes of vehicle alphabetically. Then from amongst those, it will group each make by model. Each model will be grouped into years, assuming that specific year uses the same part number as the other years. I feel like I'm poorly explaining what I am trying to do, but I'm not sure how else to word it.

Have you tried to use a Pivot Table for this?

Re: Format Table in Branching Structure

I did, and at first, I thought that was my solution, but it didn't quite do what I was hoping for, because it won't group the years that have the same part number. Really the only reason I am doing this is to make a print out reference guide, because all of the people I work with will only use it if it is printed out and they can open the book and look. So I am trying to make a table where they can look up the cars year, make, and model, and using that they will be given the proper part.

And today I realized that there is a group function for pivot tables, which sort of works, but doesn't seem to fully group the values (years in this case) that have the same sub value (part number)
