Stop Excel from changing formulas that link to external sheets when placed in onedrive.

    Hello Again.

This has been annoying me for a while so I thought it was time to ask some pros. So I have 4 spreadsheets which run my finances and each one links back to the previous year to grab hours worked and saving information. If I have them stored in a normal folder the formulas in question look like the following, and work perfectly I must add.

    =SUM((COUNTIF('C:\Users\Will\Desktop\New folder\[The Master File 2014.xlsx]Shifts'!$Y$17:$Y$32,$A$105)),(COUNTIF(C2:C16,$A$105)))*$AB$3

But as soon as i put them in onedrive they get to changed to this, and then ofcourse stop working.

    =SUM((COUNTIF('https://d.docs.live.net/cce48ba65ed2e5b5/Documents/Finance ^0 Personal Files/The Master Files/[The Master File 2014.xlsx]Shifts'!$Y$17:$Y$32,$A$105)),(COUNTIF(C2:C16,$A$105)))*$AB$3

Is there anyway to stop this from inside Excel or is it a Onedrive issue? Unless this is done for a reason I'm missing?

    many thanks

    Will.

If you happen to have all the links within the same folder, moving them (through Windows) would "preserve" the links such that it looks for those same files within the new folder. I.e. it assumes that when you move that one file you move all associated files with it.

Try saving it into the Onedrive folder via Excel's Save As? (I.e. Open the file in question, File --> Save As --> Select Onedrive folder). That should do the trick.

Thanks Quekbc that did work to start off with but I changed something non related to the issue just to test it, and again went back to the onedrive link after pressing save. So I essentially need to 'save as' everytime? That seems rather silly. Why would they make it so you can't use 'save'?

That seems odd. It works fine when I was testing it on my computer without Onedrive. I'll need to get to my home computer that has Onedrive to test it out.

Can you try this, in the file you have now (with the Onedrive links)
    1) Data tab, Edit Links. It should list all the links to any external workbooks (currently to Onedrive), click Change Source, and change them back to the original links.
    2) Save file, close Excel, reopen the file and check to see if the links has changed.
    3) If links remain the same, trying doing a small change and repeat step 2 again.

Yeah they work perfectly when they aren't in Onedrive, even tried storing them in dropbox and they work fine. Followed your guide to the letter, re checked the links before closing. As soon as I reopen the sheet they're back to the net links.

That IS annoying. Unfortunately I do not have a solution for you. Hopefully some other member will provide some light on this.

As a side note, I noticed that my references to my personal add-in's UDFs will always change to an external reference but only when I open it through Onedrive via a web browser or through my mobile phone. I've just resorted to downloading the file unto a local computer, make changes to it, and reupload to Onedrive.
