Re: How to see formula - explanation please

According to the "format cells" dialog -> alignment tab, the text string "Wednesday" is centered across K1,L1,M1,N1. The text string is stored in K1, where L1, M1, N1 are blank cells. It is a confusing way to format things, because it makes it look like "Wednesday" is in L1, when it is really in K1. In many ways, this is one of the reasons that using merged cells and "center across selection" are not recommended -- because they make it more difficult to see which cell a given value is assigned to.

The same thing is happening in L2. K2:N2 are formatted to "center across selection" and the formula is assigned to cell K2, but it looks like the result is in L2.

As for understanding the formula in K2, what part are you having trouble with? I might suggest that you pull up the formula evaluate tool (Formulas Group -> Evaluate formula) and follow the calculation of the formula step by step. Then research and/or ask questions about the steps of the formula that you did not understand. I might also suggest the help files for the individual functions (https://support.office.com/en-us/art...rs=en-US&ad=US ) to understand the syntax and arguments for each function within that formula.

Actually the formula was in K1 & L1
Range K1:L1 & K2:L2 was merged as Center Cross Selection under Format cells > Alignment > Text Alignment > Horizontal
