Pulling data from other workbooks

There are two work books out on the server and I need to pull data from them. If the work books were mine I would put them all in one. Unfortunately they are not and I need to pull data from each. So now I have a 3rd work book that is pulling data from two separate locations. My issue is that my formulas don’t work when the work books I’m pulling data from are closed. If I open the work book that contains the data I’m pulling then it works great. But when I close the workbooks containing the data my formula returns a #VALUE. What am I doing wrong?

Some formulae just don't work with closed workbooks, such as COUNTIF, COUNTIFS, SUMIF, SUMIFS. SUMPRODUCT does, so, depending on what you're trying to do, you might be able to construct a formula using that (see http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/o...4-123d67801d73 for an example). Alternatively, you might be able to use SUM and IF together in an array formula (see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/260415). It all depends on what you're trying to do.
