Need to insert rows in between list of names and include averages for values recorded

Hi I'm working on a spreadsheet which has average 5-15 different values that were collected for research. I need to insert spaces in between subjects and then put in averages for each person corresponding to the collected data.
Any shortcuts please? theres alot of data and it is taking sooo long to do this manually...there has to be some sort of formula to help me insert spaces in between different names and then something to help quicken the formulas.

    Hi John915
Data: Outline: Subtotal: At each change in Subject Use AVG function. Add subtotal too your collected data field.

    This should get you going.

    Welcome to the forum.

A Pivot Table might show what you want.
Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

I still think that in the long run a Pivot Table may be the answer for you. It is a very powerful summary tool. It will count the patients, sort them in order, create totals for each one, give you grand totals and much more. All that you have to have is data in proper data format. That is column headings for each column, 1 record per row (no blank rows for it to work properly)

To get total number of all the patients: do what you did before with the subtotal. With the current table visible, Change your criteria, add COUNT to the subtotal table choosing the field you want a count of. UNCHECK replace current subtotals so you don't wipe out the AVERAGE totals that were already in place.
As newdoverman pointed out, pivot tables might be a good option too.
