How useful are YouTube tutorials for VBA

At least compared to books or proper courses? It's the one area of Excel that eludes me and I would like to learn it eventually in my spare time. Are they a good starting point for a complete VBA beginner or would you recommend something else?

    _ 1)
I found it quite difficult to learn VBA because the area is just so vast. Books, Courses etc i did try and they were OK, but often Teaching material is lacking - No teacher can teach you about a lot of VBA stuff, because no one taught them about a lot of the stuff.
My participation in Excel Forums, particularly in answering Threads as soon as i could i found to be the best alternative.
I think most experts will tell you
_ 1a ) Practice, practice and more practice.
_ 1b ) Keep asking ( you have started that ). In these Forums the best experts often “Hang out” and there knowledge is worth a thousand books. Their ability to churn out codes at an amazing speed is amazing. If you can get them to explain some of what they are doing then that sharing of their years of experience and knowledge is Gold worth. Always be polite and say thanks even if they do not fully answer any questions you have

As for Book Lists, hiker95, always has a good recommended list. Here an old one, ( but you could maybe Contact him ( PM ) , or ask in a thread for his latest )

( Always copy the URL from Threads and reference your other treads if you are cross posting at other Excel Forums. This is an important Forum rule. ( Try to read up on all forum Rules before posting )

As for You Tube Tutorials. I did find them useful in addition to the above. Here are some play lists I found useful

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABXP...S5k4zsvnu2mkJC

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHO5...3akx_gFMnpxTN5

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssei...hnI_9U2Wl1No7s

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIhK...suD6oNDaOk3vbR

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_1e...7lleNVtNeAhBVC
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDYk...007E847B3E6658

I preferred to download the play lists so I could let these Playlist run in the background continuously without advertisements etc.,
I let them run in the evenings to fall to sleep by instead of watching television, or had on an old computer running in the background as i was practicing VBA code on my main computer.

Here some Free software I used to download the playlists
    (4K Video Downloader ):
    http://www.chip.de/downloads/c1_down...203511&v=3600&
possibly take a look at the current offered downloader from You Tube also

and to convert if necessary to WMV format I also used Converters Koyote Free Video Converter or Sothink Free Video Converter
I actually prefer Koyote Free Video Converter, which I downloaded some time ago. But currently i see there are security issues with downloading both these. You may need to Google around yourself to get a good free converter if you need one.

Be very careful what you check OR should UNCHECK during any downloads so that you only get the one thing you want downloaded

Best way to learn VBA is first of all, think your problem through fully.

You won't learn it all, but getting familiar with some of the more basic functions and ideas is a good start.

Also, having a good working knowledge of formulas in excel will help as some of their VBA counterparts have similar syntax and behavior.

    My biggest two tips:

Remember to making every option explicit (google it).
Write code with natural hold points in, this will allow you to stop and check with ease!

    Cheers,

Re: How useful are YouTube tutorials for VBA

    Hi,
I was using this Threads to get some You Tube links for someone and noticed that the links are mostly going nowhere. Not sure why. So i tried to find the playlists again:

These seem to be working just now:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABXP...S5k4zsvnu2mkJC
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHO5...3akx_gFMnpxTN5
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kd6Z...VH5Dq42RG9tlRP
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIhK...suD6oNDaOk3vbR
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z08z...Z_6brD5Gk1sVy_
    https://www.youtube.com/user/ExcelVbaIsFun/playlists
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_d8...lhXL_9m7EAgcMq
    https://www.youtube.com/user/ExcelVB...ort=dd&view=50
    https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...o2SEPBLLPGOyBz
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_1e...7lleNVtNeAhBVC
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDYk...007E847B3E6658

Maybe Sometimes the Links change at You Tube. If that happens again you could do a Google search with “You Tube” and these names
    YourProgrammingNetwork
    ExcelVbalsFun
    WiseOwlTutorials
    ExcelScreencasts
    ExcelVBAHelp
    Andreas Thehos
    LoeblComServices
    Dinesh Kumar Takyar
    VBA4Excel
    I-Helped-U DoubleCheck
    methodactor1982VBA
_ .. and try to find there playlists.

Hope that helps anyone else in the future stumbling on this Thread when looking for You Tube VBA Tutorials Playlist
    Alan

P.s. But I still think Practice and active Forum Participation is the best way to learn!!
