Conditional Formatting - which range to use in "applies to"?

    Hi,

I have data in A1 to Z50 and want to apply conditional formatting to each of these rows.

Some rows in this range require one set of rules for formatting and other rows will have another set of rules applied.

I’ll create each of the two conditional formatting schemes in a row and will then paste-format the format to the applicable rows.

Something I’m struggling with is the “applies to” option when creating the conditional formatting rules.

If, say, A1:Z10, A13:Z25, A33:Z42 and A44:Z50 should have one set of conditional formatting rules, and the other areas in A1 to Z50 will have the other set of conditional formatting rules, what range should “applies to” refer to when creating the two sets of rule?

    Thanks!

You've deleted the text of your question, but luckily I read it before that!

Don't worry too much about the 'applies to' if you're going to be 'paste-formatting' the rules. Select your first range, do the CF for it, then 'paste-format' to the other ranges - Excel will automatically deal with the 'applies to'.

I recently started a new job so am a bit busy and may not reply quickly. Sorry - it's not personal - I will reply eventually.
If your problem is solved, please go to 'Thread Tools' above your first post and 'Mark this Thread as Solved'.
If you use commas as your decimal separator (1,23 instead of 1.23) then please replace commas with semi-colons in your formulae.
You don't need to give me rep if I helped, but a thank-you is nice.
