    Unhappy data entry shows ####

I am just starting to use Excel 2010. I am entering data and one of my entries it shows as a ####, I keyed in the date 10/12/2015 reentered as 10/12/15 I have only recently took a class, but have no practical skills with this program. Any advice would be appreciated TIA!

Without seeing it I am guessing here, but, try to widen the column width and see if that helps.

Just make the column a little wider.
    Either
    • Position the mouse pointer between the column headings (until you see a double-headed arrow)...Click and hold...Drag to the right to expand the column
    or
    • Position the mouse pointer between the column headings (until you see a double-headed arrow)...Double-Click to automatically adjust the width
    or
    • Select the entire column....Home.Format.
...choose either Autofit column or Column Width

    Does that help?

Those signs mean that the data entered is too large to be displayed in the available width of the cell. You can make the column wider by double-clicking on the right hand side of the column identifier, or just dragging it more to the right.

    Hope this helps.

You can also get those ### signs if you try to subtract 6:00 PM from 4:00 PM. No matter how wide the column it will be filled with ###
    A
    B
    C
    2
    6:00 PM
    4:00 PM
