Sorting and filtering multiple project lists, each with multiple tasks

I would like to filter AND sort a list of projects that each have multiple tasks. I would like to sort the projects by the priority list of the project or by the owner of the project. I run into problems with using the autofilter feature with merged cells. See attached.

Do NOT use merged cells as they are nothing but trouble!!
If that takes care of your original question, please select Thread Tools from the menu link above and mark this thread as SOLVED.

I'm not much good with Advanced Filter... but this (if you have the SCAN function) can dynamically infill the missing values. Would that help you do the filtering?

If you don't have SCAN, alternatives exist...

    =SCAN("",A2:A15,LAMBDA(x,y,IF(y="",x,y)))

Will you be wanting to filter your stuff to look at MULTIPLE projects, or just one at a time?

Hello slogan74. Welcome to the forum.

In the attached J2 and copied down find one of the alternatives Glenn referred to above. For example:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

Then, if I understand correctly, this in K2 ... will fill down and across all by itself in Excel 365 ...
    Formula: copy to clipboard

By-the-way this sorts separately by multiple projects.

Re: Sorting and filtering multiple project lists, each with multiple tasks

Thanks for the replies. I am wanting to look at multiple projects. I sometimes will want to filter out all the tasks and just show the list of projects. I sometimes want to see everything sorted by the name of the owner of the project, or sometime filter by the priority of the project. What you sent doesn't accomplish that.
