filtering multiple data validation dropdown lists

    Hi,

What would be the best method of filtering datavalidation dropdown lists?

I.e. say I have 2 lists. Each List’s “contents” dependant on what has been selected in the previous list.

    First list

    • Cars
    • Fruit
    • Cameras

If “Cars” is selected then list two should display

    • Honda
    • Ford
    • Toyota

If “Fruit” is selected then list two should display

    • Apples
    • Oranges
    • Toyota

If “Cameras” is selected then list two should display
    • Canon
    • Nikon
    • Kodak
    • Sigma
    • Sony

Re: filtering multiple data validation dropdown lists

Here's a sample sheet I've posted showing how it's done. The sheet "CHOICES" has the dependent drop lists (and shows one of the dangers of using them) and the sheet "LISTS" shows the lists and named ranges in use.

    Have a look.

    Sample Files
    Jerry Beaucaire's Excel Tools
    The files you want are:
    --DependentLists3.xls - 3 levels
    --DependentLists2.xls - 2 levels
--DependentLists-SelfSorting.xls - Self-Sorting lists of fruits by color choices

are there any pros and cons in using a combo box from the developer tab? my lists are going to be of multiple word in length and am concerned about the potential complexity involved in producing them since they are not single words. i liked your code for clearing cells when earlier cells change though.
