Excel filter but with drop down list

    Hello guys,

I'm building an excel workbook for someone who knows little about computers.

It is a sheet with a table where I have 'House number' and 'Things to do'. This is something I will put in. What the users has to do is to choose the 'House number' (with a drop down list) and then choose 'Things to do'. Then he/she has to add the 'Date' and write a comment on what he did specifically.

A simple Filter (Data - Filter in excel) is too complicated since there you get drop down menu instead of a simple drop down list

How can I make a table that works exactly like the Filter in excel but has a drop down list ?

Thank you so much for the help.

It will not behave exactly like the filter.
What do you want it to do other than provide a list of items to select from?
(which is done via Data/Data Validation? see attached)

I suggest two things: Add the information to an Excel Table. So when you add house number 4 or 5 or whatever, the "known" data expands with the table. Simply select a row in the table, and go to Home -> Format as Table.

Then add a slicer. Put the cursor in the table and select Insert -> Slicer.

About the only thing to teach is that after you select a specific house if you want to see all the houses again, then click off the filter as shown in the picture.

One spreadsheet to rule them all. One spreadsheet to find them. One spreadsheet to bring them all and at corporate, bind them.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a sample spreadsheet is more likely to be worked on.
