Scores posted on 'games' sheet, sent to 'matches & games' sheet, find winner or indicate 'tie', and show names. I haven't been able to always indicate 'tie' when it's with player on same team. Found winner using 'max', but can't seem to show name of that winner. This is a re-post, since my attachment first time didn't; attach that is. Here's hoping.

I can't figure out what you are doing, but you might want to look up INDEX. The syntax for index is = INDEX(This Range, This row,This Column). You are apparently using max to find the winning score. You can use MATCH to find out which row it is on (Match will only find the first occurrence) and you should know what column has the name.
One spreadsheet to rule them all. One spreadsheet to find them. One spreadsheet to bring them all and at corporate, bind them.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a sample spreadsheet is more likely to be worked on.

    Hi Dflak,

Looks like a great spreadsheet, but I'm still trying to wade through it. I'm really finding out how little I know about Excel. Bear with me.

Thanks for the help. I'm sure I'll find my way eventually.

    Cheers,

    Hi micope21,

After being a little mindboggled, I finally saw how it worked. The 'matches' function didn't work at first, because you sent it to the lower set of cells for the names, but (of course) I neglected to put the names down there. So, I redirected to the names above and it worked! Thank you!

However, I'm still confused. Is there a function called 'dummy', or does that refer to me? Rightfully so. If it really would find the 'winner' or 'tie', I'd like to figure how to do that. So far, too dense to figure it out.

Oh, by the way, I don't expect more than 3 ties, but might in future when I attempt a tournament with 24 or 36 players.

    Thanks again for the assistance.

    Cheers,
    Matcutter
