Preserve Manual Entries when query is updated

We have a file that has a Microsoft Query running a SQL select statement and then returning a handful of columns and data to the file. We then added additional columns so that users can enter information. When items are opened and closed at the source and this file is updated, we want whatever information is entered in the manual columns to remain with the rows from the query and move up or down accordingly.

    Any advice?

    Tom

I think that you are importing too many columns and your manually entered data is being over-written. Make sure that you are leaving enough columns for the query before entering the manual data.

I ran a couple of tests with the data import through Microsoft Query having exactly the number of columns that I left blank before my manual data and the data imported correctly leaving my data intact.

Re: Preserve Manual Entries when query is updated

So my query is pulling in 6 fields automatically from the DB but then I am inserting about 4 new columns at the end of the auto fields. Those 4 fields are not part of the original query and if a row is deleted in the source and the file is updated, it will be removed from the file but the manually entered row will not be removed as well thus shifting the cells and mismatching the rows.
