How to navigate between rows but keep them highlighted

    Hey all,

I've tried researching this on existing forum threads but haven't found a solution to my problem.

I have to go through sheets and remove rows that have unimportant information on it. these sheets often have over 10k rows and I need to one by one assess whether a row is important based on the information in a couple different columns. If they are unimportant they need to be removed from the sheet. Until this point I have been using the cursor to select them one by one and press f4 to repeat the delete action but it's not easy to click the small block at the start of each row while keeping an eye on the columns that have the relevant information. When I use arrow keys it jumps from the entire row to the first cell in the next row, which is obviously not what I want. I have found a macro somewhere that will highlight the entire row but it doesn't help me much since it still just has the first cell selected and just colours in the other cells of that row.

is there a way to have an entire row selected, and then use keyboard commands (like arrow keys combined with another key or something) to select the entire row below it?

I would suggest that you do things completely differently. First, apply data filters to your table. Then at the top of the relevant column(s), choose the values that indicate information that should be removed. When you have selected all the appropriate values from all the necessary columns, select all the rows below your headers and delete them. You can repeat this as many times as you need; depending on the specific combinations of values it could be between one and lots of times, but the rows are automatically kept track of for you.

Thanks for the information Bernie, and I thought about applying data filters before but in this case it's not about meeting certain parameters. Basically i need to judge if rows need deleting or not based on my opinion rather than a rational if/then. I'm going to have to find a different solution...

Do you need to select the entire row?

You could just select a cell in the row you want to delete.

Then when you come to deleting rows right click one of the selected cells, select Delete... and then select Entire Row.

That's not really more efficient than the way I'm doing it now.

I thought the problem was having to click to select the entire row not efficiency?

If efficiency is the issue I would suggest adding a column, in an appropriate location, with a Y/N dropdown.

As you go through the rows assessing things you select Y if you want to delete a row, N if you don't.

Once you've finished assesment filter on the column with the dropdown and delete the required rows en masse.

PS Doesn't actually need to be a dropdown, you could just add an X in the added column, just thought a dropdown might be easier.
