How do I high light a cell based on a different cell?

I have a drop down menu with certain job classifications. I want to highlight the cell above based on the certain job class selected.

    Example

    Job Class
    A
    B
    C

If Job class A is selected I want the cell above to be a certain color. If job class B is selected the cell above will be a different color.

    Thank you for you help?

Assuming A1 is the cell you want to highlight and A2 is the one with the dropdown, select A1 then "Home / Conditional Formatting / New Rule / Use Formula to ...."

In the box titled "Format values where this formula is true" enter the below.
    Formula: copy to clipboard
Please Login or Register to view this content.

Then click on the "Format" button and select the formatting style you wish to apply.

Repeat these steps for B and C adjusting the formula to suit.
