I know how to freeze the first column for scrolling, but is there a way to freeze several columns? My guess is "no," but can't resist asking. Thanks.

Let's assume you want columns A, B and C to always be visible.
Select the entire column D.
Goto the View tab>Freeze Panes>Freeze Panes

If I understand you correctly, you want columns A, B and C visible all the time if you scroll to the right.
Select D1 and go to View, Freeze Panes, Freeze Panes.
If you scroll vertically, the scrolling is normal in that the visible columns scroll as usual. If you scroll horizontally, columns A, B and C will remain visible.
