Angry RELATIVE cells copy like ABSOLUTE

i am trying to update a spreadsheet in Autodesk Inventor. The program uses excel based sheets for the part database.
i am trying to add a column for " Description " and am using the concatenate function.
My formula in row 1 is =CONCATENATE("FHCS - SOCKET HEAD - ",Z3,"mm LONG")
When i copy it to row 2 i expect......=CONCATENATE("FHCS - SOCKET HEAD - ",Z4,"mm LONG")

It is acting like absolute and i get the exact same formula.( with the Z3 )

What am i missing?
I just want the program to work normally.

thanx for you help

any cell that i copy ....eg. "=A3" is copied exactly where i put it "=A3" instead of the row number it should be.

This is probably because you do it in Inventor.
May be (I doubt, but why not give a try) the problem is only with addresses inside fun ctions. You may try concatenation operator insterad of function:
Formula: copy to clipboard

check also if simple
Formula: copy to clipboard
Please Login or Register to view this content.

copies as expected (and may be there is some switch in Inventor options to use relative/absolute addressing
Best Regards,

If you are doing this IN excel, do you have calcs set to manual, perhaps? Press F9 and see if anything changes
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

when editing the spreadsheet....Excel opens normally.
and actually will run without inventor.
this should be a normal copy function and it is not acting as it should.

Actually, if teh cells were formatted as text, then the whole formula would have shown as is, and not just had part of it - a cell ref inside the formula - changed.
And without seeing a sample of what you are working with, it is often hard to GUESS what your problem might be

Re: RELATIVE cells copy like ABSOLUTE

Apparently Inventor stores the file with all columns formatted as text. A formula copied down would therefore remain the same when copied down (because it is text).
When you modify the file in excel it is converted back to text when saved by Inventor.
Columns need to be formatted EACH TIME you edit the file for this reason. When you go back into the file all the formulas will have been changed to the result of the formula shown as text.
