Question Transfer Data from One Spreadsheet to Another but other has different layout

    Hi Everyone,

I've had a search on the forum but couldn't find anything that seemed to be exactly the same as mine or least didn't appear so. Sorry if it has been asked before.

    So, my problem is this:

I created one spreadsheet with thousands of columns of data. Quite a lot of the rows in this original spreadsheet are empty, due to the need to manually find data. We found a way to extract the data much faster, however we do not want to lose the manual data which could not be extracted.

The data in the original has many similar columns, but there are differences, so I cannot simply copy & paste into the second one.

I probably haven't explained this very well, but any help would be extremely appreciated. I can provide more details/pics if necessary. This problem has stumped me for a few days now and it would be great to get it solved.

    Thank you.

Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, a picture is impossible to work with.

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

Remember to desensitize the data. (Remove private or sensitive data that shouldn't be published)

Click on GO ADVANCED and then scroll down to Manage Attachments to open the upload window.
Click on Browse under Upload Files from your Computer and then find the file on your computer using the dialogue that opens. Click on Open then click on Upload. Click on Close this Window. Click on Submit.

    Hi,

I have attached the sample. Please take a look. I basically want to match the given agencies from one spreadsheet to another without having to do it manually. Will be useful for future reference.

    Thank you.

Couldn't you just copy the data from one worksheet and paste under the data on the other worksheet (or copy both to another worksheet) then select all the data, click on the Data tab, Remove Duplicates? Your workbook shows identical setup of both sets of data which appears to be different from your picture. Which one is correct the picture or the workbook?

Re: Transfer Data from One Spreadsheet to Another but other has different layout

Using your sample, I created two worksheets that will copy the data from each of the other worksheets. Sheet1 will copy the data if the layout is in the same order. Sheet2 will copy the data relying on the column headers to get the data in order if it is different on the other worksheets. A helper column for Sheet2 was created on worksheets Practice 1 and Practice 2 which are used in worksheet Sheet2.

There are also calculations in columns R and S of Practice 1 and Practice 2 to calculate the number of rows necessary in the combined worksheets.

Re: Transfer Data from One Spreadsheet to Another but other has different layout

So I rearranged the data in the sample so that all the rows are the same for both worksheets, however the data in the columns is totally different.

Essentially, I want one spreadsheet to slot into the other, larger one. Many of the agency names will match up with similar data. However, I cannot simply copy and paste it all in one go since it will not match the existing data within the other worksheet.

As you can see, Practice 1 has data for some rows, while Practice 2 has data for some other rows. I want them to slot in together. Practice 1 does not have an identical set up in terms of columns, so I cannot simply copy & paste onto it.

I want a way to match them up without having to manually enter all of the data into the new worksheet. I am sure there is a Excel solution, but I just don't know it. Sorry if I am explaining this extremely badly, it's rather difficult without linking the actual worksheets (which I am happy to do if it doesn't break guidelines - it doesn't have any data that isn't already public)

I've explained this badly. Will attach another sample to try and better explain as the workbooks exceed the allowance.
