cannot edit a cell and its not locked

Hope some one can help, I have used Excel for years but you can always find new tricks and with a spare minute and the need for a new expense form I download a template form Microsoft with the thought of modifying it for my needs.

However I have one cell with a nice date formula but the format is M/D/Y and I need to change it to D/M/Y get when I edit the cell I get the following message which I have never seen before

    Message Box with:

'This cell is automatically populated and should not be overwritten. Overwriting this cell would break calculation in this worksheet'

and then 'Retry', 'Cancel' and 'Help' none of which have worked and the help has not.

    Hi,

Is it a .xlsm file which would indicate there's a macro.
One cause would be a sheet selection change or a sheet change event macro that is monitoring that cell and making that message pop up.

Upload the workbook so that we can check it out.

Have you looked if there are any data validation rules applied to it?

Re: cannot edit a cell and its not locked

I don't know why but I cannot attached the excel file so I have shared it with dropbox the link is https://www.dropbox.com/s/opb5n4uil1...%201.xlsx?dl=0

The cell with the issue is C9 and has this formula =IF(MIN(B13:B16)=MAX(B13:B16),TEXT(MIN(B13:B16),"m/d/yy"),"From "&TEXT(MIN(B13:B16),"m/d/yy")&" to "&TEXT(MAX(B13:B16),"m/d/yy"))
and I need to change m/d/yy to d/m/yy but when I do I get the error.

I have checked the validation and I don't think there is any.

I have enver see anything like this before.

Please attach the workbook here, as not everybody will access files on file-sharing sites.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Select the cell and then data validation on the data ribbon: as I suspected, that is where the message is coming from. If I were you, I would make a copy of the Excel file before disabling this and then proceeding with your intended edits, just in case.
