.xlsm file not accepting password

hi,

has anybody encountered a bug where a .xlsm file would not accept the password to open it
the only solution is to restart my pc
after restart then it would accept the password
happened to me recently twice already for the same .xlsm file
inside the file is just a simple macro

No, cannot say I have seen that problem.

This may be a stupid question, but are you sure you are using the correct P/W?
Next time, when you can open to, try to remove the PW, save, close and re-open - see if the problem goes away.
Then save with a REALLY simple PW (aaa), close, reopen
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

Re: .xlsm file not accepting password

Could you have accidentally turned Caps Lock on/off? Since the password is Case sensitive, you will get a wrong PW error because you are entering CAPS.

I hope this helps, please let me know!

David

Re: .xlsm file not accepting password

hi,

im really sure im entering the correct password
i even type slowly character by character making sure i type the correct one
im also sure the caps lock is toggled correctly

ive also noticed the bug happens when ive accessed (open/close) the file several times

the latest incident when i could not open it i closed the file closed excel
restarted pc then when i opened excel (i have not click to open the file yet)
it said something about an error opening the file (forgot the exact statement)
and that if i would like excel to repair it
i clicked ok then a message saying it cannot repair the file coz its corrupted
i closed the message, double clicked the file to open it prompted for the password
no error message, typed the password, then the file opened there was no error

this is the macro insisde the file

Re: .xlsm file not accepting password

found the culprit my keyboard has been remapped

when i press shift+2 it should type @ it doesnt, it actually types " (double quote)
and when i press shift+" it should type " (double quote) it doesnt, it actually types @
it only resets after restarting my pc but eventually it gets remapped again i guess after several hours
maybe have a virus or something i dont know

Thanks for letting us know. Never would have thought of that. Re-mapping a keyboard is outside my experience!

I would not have thought of that either.

Is there perhaps some VBA running in the background that could do that?
