I think you might need the VLC plug-in - search for 'ActiveX plugin' or 'excel plugin' on the videolan forums (https://forum.videolan.org/index.php) and hopefully that'll be of some help. From a quick scan, it looks like you might need some VBA too, but I don't know enough about it to be able to help any more, sorry!

I recently started a new job so am a bit busy and may not reply quickly. Sorry - it's not personal - I will reply eventually.
If your problem is solved, please go to 'Thread Tools' above your first post and 'Mark this Thread as Solved'.
If you use commas as your decimal separator (1,23 instead of 1.23) then please replace commas with semi-colons in your formulae.
You don't need to give me rep if I helped, but a thank-you is nice.
My suspicion all along has been if I had Windows Media Player as my default there would be no problem. I don't like WMP so that's why I have VLC. Quite possibly it will require VBA as activex plugins don't seem available. Thank you Spook, you've pointed me in the right direction.

You're welcome. I'm with you in not liking WMP and I use VLC too, it's just that I've never had occasion to try it running from within Excel. Good luck.
