Change Various Text Pre-1900 Date Formats to Sortable Date Values

I have downloaded genealogy related matches to a spreadsheet that includes Birth and Death text dates. The format of the dates vary. Examples: '10-Oct-1875' to 10/10/1875' to 'abt. 1875' to ;//1875'. Anybody have a technique to change these to a standard and sortable DMY Date format?

Microsoft have some VBA code which is supposed to allow you to work with pre-1900 dates, here:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...-1900-in-excel

Another page with some good info about pre-1900 dates, including mention of the Julian/Gregorian calendar switch issues, is this one:
    http://www.exceluser.com/formulas/earlydates.htm

Unfortunately, I think you'd have to decide yourself how to handle the non-standard forms of dates ('abt. 1875' etc), but maybe the above is a start.

If your problem is solved, please go to 'Thread Tools' above your first post and 'Mark this Thread as Solved'.
If you use commas as your decimal separator (1,23 instead of 1.23) then please replace commas with semi-colons in your formulae.
You don't need to give me rep if I helped, but a thank-you is nice.

Re: Change Various Text Pre-1900 Date Formats to Sortable Date Values

Thanks for the Excel VBA code. Problem is it only works on pre-1900 dates that are in a date format. Unfortunately, the majority of mine are in Text mode. I've tried the Exceluser code and have questions in to Charley
