Hello - I have two lists of data 1. text of degree courses titles and 2. list of administrators for those degree courses. How can I get excel to return the associated person's name in the adjacent cell containing the degree course? I thought I might be able to use the IF function (something like if cell A1=BA Music return Adam Smith in cell D2), so that all cells in the D column return the associated person's name based on the degree title.......

Firstly, you have not shown your expected outcomes - enter some of these manually in column B. Then tell us exactly how we are to reconcile the qualifications with the teachers listed.

I have a big and increasing list of people (applicants, around 2000 of them) to programme titles (there are about 300 programe titles) and a smaller list of tutor names in a separate workbook (about 30).
So, the outcome I want: To automatically link tutor names to programme titles, rather than go through each record and enter the name. So, for example, if cells A1 to A50 = BA (Hons) Acting the formula in B1 to B50 knows to return P. Phillips and if cells A51 to A70 = BA (Hons) Business and Human Resource Management the formula in B51 to B70 knows to return D. Marshall

Mmmm. Not as straightforward as you'd think! Going to have to think abut this. You could just have a drop-down box in column B with all the tutors in it. Even better would be a master list of qualifications and associated tutors, and then do a VLOOKUP or INDEX MATCH.
